Virtual reality game to raise awareness among young patients with sickle cell disease about the importance of adhering to their treatment, developed in partnership with Necker Hospital.
Nastiron is an innovative tool that helps young patients understand their disease while entertaining them. Feedback has been very positive and promising.
Sickle cell disease is a genetic condition affecting 4.4 million people worldwide. Young patients often do not follow their treatment rigorously, which can lead to complications.
The teams at APHP, particularly at Necker Hospital, were looking for a solution to educate young patients about the importance of properly following their treatment.
The goal was to create an educational tool that was both fun and pedagogical.
Conseil 3D developed Nastiron, a virtual reality game compatible with Google Cardboard.
The game transports young patients inside their own bodies, where they must protect their organs from iron, represented as 3D nails and screws. Over 5 levels corresponding to different organs, players use a variety of weapons to eliminate enemies. When they run out of ammunition, they must answer questions about their disease to continue playing, alternating between gameplay and learning phases.
This method reinforces the connection between the game and adherence to treatment.
Nastiron was warmly welcomed by the teams at Necker Hospital. Patients were highly enthusiastic about playing the game and receptive to its educational message.
This positive feedback encourages APHP teams to propose innovative solutions to improve patients’ daily lives.
